The context
A cruise line runs a small town at sea and a global company on shore. Procurement, crew, itineraries, provisioning, excursions and accounting each have their own rules, their own people and, too often, their own spreadsheets.
The client needed one platform for the head office and the fleet. Modular, so that each area could grow on its own. Secure, with the company's own sign-in. And connected to the ERP, so that figures produced in operations would not have to be typed again in accounting.
What we built
A modular enterprise platform: one web portal in front of 36 back-end services. Each area of the business is a module with its own data, screens and roles; all of them share identity, documents and master data.
The areas cover the chain from buying to sailing:
Procurement: bids, orders, vendors and documents.
People: HR, crew payroll at sea, crew documents and GDPR compliance.
Finance: head-office budget, subsidies and call-centre incentives.
Voyages: charter operations, itineraries and itinerary margins.
Provisioning: a loading planner for supplying ships in port, stock forecast, the monthly storeroom and loading reports.
Guest services: shore-excursion accounting, transfers and special requests.
Ship to shore: integration of data coming from the ships, and synchronisation of onboard property-management data with the ERP.
Automation: a mailbox reader and scheduled jobs that carry out recurring work without anyone pressing a button.
How it connects
Booking financials are pushed automatically into Microsoft Dynamics NAV, so they are no longer re-keyed by hand. The ERP remains the system of record: the platform prepares, checks and delivers.
The platform also exchanges data with Oracle and master-data systems, reads and sends mail through Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Graph, and signs people in with Microsoft Entra ID and two-factor authentication. Documents are kept in Azure Blob Storage; recurring work runs as scheduled jobs with Hangfire.
The outcome
More than twenty areas of the business work in one portal, with one sign-in and one set of master data. Booking financials reach the ERP without manual re-keying.
Because the platform is modular, a new area is added as a service beside the existing ones, without rewriting what already works.
